Yannick Shetty is the youngest member of the Austrian Parliament. As MP, he participates in the Committees on Buildings and Housing, Consumer Protection, Equal Treatment, Sports, Environment, Education, Accounting, and Incompatibility. He is the party’s spokesperson on issues regarding LGBTIQ, inclusion, youth and sports.
Action
As the youngest member of the Austria Parliament, he is fighting for a better future for our youngest generation and more equal opportunities in a changing world with new challenges like climate change, intergenerational justice, mental health in light of the pandemic. This includes an honest but also binding integration policy as well as his tireless commitment to equality, respect, and the rights of LGBTIQ people. Every human being should be able to live a self-determined life as part of our democratic, open-minded and diverse society.
He is particularly concerned about the mental health of children and teenagers. They still suffer severely from the measures taken to contain the pandemic – this is clearly shown by the conditions in child and adolescent psychiatry. Sufficient therapy and counseling must therefore be made available and low-threshold services created.
Relevant discourse
As the youngest member of parliament, Yannick Shetty is particularly committed to Austrias youngest generation and expresses their needs in his parliamentary speeches. This is particularly important because young people are often not considered in budget issues, especially if it concerns their own future. In his speech on the federal government’s budget proposal, he described it as a slap in the face for all young people in Austria.
On the 14th of October 2021 Shetty said in his speech: “When it comes to the three central issues for the future – those issues whose solution goes beyond a legislative period – this budget is a punch in the face for all young people. Climate protection, education policy, pension system.”
