Digital technologies and artificial intelligence bring new opportunities for the enjoyment of human rights, but also new threats to their protection. New concepts of rights and obligations, directly arise from the relationship between citizens and technology.
Similarly, the advance of these technologies is creating new challenges to public governance, as policymakers struggle to find consensus on effective and transparent governance frameworks to protect fundamental rights in relation to technology. According to Club de Madrid and the Boston Global Forum, these frameworks should be global and follow a series of ethical standards and practical principles.
Since 2020, Boston Global Forum (BGF) and Club de Madrid (CdM) have partnered to declare and promote the Social Contract for the AI Age, the Framework for AI International Accord, and the Global Alliance for Digital Governance, all of which are fundamental to the AI World Society (AIWS). These efforts are based on the major publication titled “Remaking the World – Toward an Age of Global Enlightenment”—a collaboration of more than twenty distinguished leaders, thinkers, strategists, and innovators, who put forth unprecedented approaches to the challenges facing the world.
Join this roundtable where Members of Club de Madrid, distinguished leaders, strategists, and thinkers will continue exchanging ideas on how our joint work can best contribute to the ongoing global processes of governing digital transformation, with the protection of fundamental rights as a central objective.

A focus on cities
Cities are often the first space to provide guarantees to citizens when deploying digital technologies and thus facilitating the full protection of their rights. Analyzing their experiences and identifying good practices can help us build a global governance framework for the new digital age. The cases of the Province of Khanh Hoa, and the cities of Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa (Vietnam) will have special attention since they will host Club de Madrid’s Policy Dialogue 2022.
