Club de Madrid promotes bills to eradicate ethnic discrimination in Peru

The objective is to promote legislative initiatives for the prevention, punishment and eradication of racism and racial discrimination in Peru, particularly towards people of African descent, through advocacy, participation and reflection among national and regional authorities that contribute to the positive recognition of ethnic-cultural diversity and the reduction of socioeconomic inequalities, within the framework of the objectives set out in the 2030 Agenda.

Having bills for the Afro-Peruvian people, benefits in the promotion of cultural diversity, in providing recognition and revaluation of the Afro-Peruvian people, as well as reducing the inequality gaps faced by Afro-Peruvians. These can also contribute to the eradication and punishment of racial discrimination and racism faced by our people.

The Member of Club de Madrid Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Nobel Peace Prize and President of Liberia (2006-2018), supported this initiative during her last visit to Madrid.

“We must all do everything we can to change that. To make sure we see each human being as equal one to the other. It’s the right thing to do”, said Sirleaf.

From 2016 to 2021 only two bills were approved out of the 16 that were presented

National Afro-Peruvian Women’s Day

A law that declares July 25 of each year as the National Afro-Peruvian Women’s Day- It was proposed by the New Peru Parliamentary Group presented by congressmen Tania Pariona, Dammert Ego, Manuel Enrique Ernesto, Richard Arce, Oracio Pacori, Alberto Quintanilla, Horacio Zeballos and Katia Gilvonio.

Identification of sites of memory of Afro-descendants and the cultural heritage of the Afro-Peruvian people

A law that promotes the identification of sites of memory of Afro-descendants and the cultural heritage of the Afro-Peruvian people. It’s objective is to promote sites of memory of Afro-descendants and African cultural heritage for the preservation of the memory, history, identity and culture of the Afro-Peruvian population.
