Article 12 of the 2011 Moroccan Constitution, that was approved in referendum, provides for the contribution of civil society in the drafting of the laws that are to develop the constitutional principles. The new Constitution also regulates the “advancement” of the regionalization process. Regional leaders will now be directly elected and government services will be provided regionally. Civil society have already been heard in the drafting of the new Constitution for the first time in Moroccan history.
INSPIRED is an EU funded initiative that works with civil society in five countries (Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan) to support its role in developing specific policies that chosen by local partners in each of the countries. The Organisation Marocaine des Droits Humains is the local project in Morocco for INSPIRED an initiative led by the European Partnership for Democracy.
