II Global Shared Societies Forum in Baku

Few countries today are totally homogeneous and most are multicultural for a variety of historical or contemporary reasons. That poses challenges for internal peace and security, as well as for social justice and inclusivity. In some countries and regions, peace, truth and reconciliation are the most important priorities, in other countries it is a matter of combating prejudice, xenophobia, social inequalities and social exclusion. In some cases leaders cater to the majority or exploit tensions between people of different identities, in order to solidify political capital among their base. Yet both research and practical observation prove without any doubt, that peace, stability, justice and mutual tolerance offer the best guarantees for economic growth and prosperity, which in turn improves the health, life expectancy, literacy, numeracy, and creativeness of the inhabitants. Truly shared societies, together with international cooperation, rather than conflict or negative interference from abroad, can then create a nurturing and diversified environment, where the talents and possibilities of every individual can contribute to the greater welfare of all.

The importance of the Forum is linked to the aim of Club de Madrid and Nizami Ganjavi International Center in reflecting the results of the consultation process made in Azerbaijan and other countries in the Region towards the Post-2015 Development Agenda in a way to foster the creation of Shared Societies in the South Caucasus region, with previous Club de Madrid experiences in development and social inclusion projects all around the world.
