Club de Madrid, the largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers, will be represented in New York during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is taking place during September.
Several Club de Madrid Members will travel to the city to participate in parallel events to support the multilateral agenda of which this Assembly is a key point.
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) will also be a key stepping stone for the Club de Madrid’s Annual Policy Dialogue 2023 (APD23), scheduled to take place in November in Brazil under the title ‘Rethinking Social Development for People and Planet’.
An Action Lab will be held on September 22 at the Baha’i International Community in preparation for this important event to discuss the effective implementation of the SDGs with the World Social Summit as a crucial milestone to generate concrete commitments in the last sprint towards 2030.
This session will also serve to present the preliminary findings and policy recommendations of the three Working Groups that have been formed for the APD23 and propel a preliminary exchange to fine-tune these initial ideas and turn them into concrete actions for inclusion in the Annual Policy Dialogue’s Call to Action. It will be attended by the leaders and members of these groups, representatives of UN Member States, UN Senior Officials, the private sector and civil society.
Among our activities is another event that we will organize in collaboration with the Atlantic Council with the aim of improving relations between Europe and the Americas. Spain: A Driver for Broadened Transatlantic Relations, also to be held on September 22, will address how improving these relations can be crucial for multilateralism.
This project will continue and the meeting is scheduled to continue on September 27, but this time in Madrid, thus touching on both sides of this transatlantic relationship.
During these weeks, other very important meetings will take place in which Club de Madrid will be a key player. Such as the presentation of the Climate Overshoot Commission report, the SDG Summit or the Clinton Global Initiative.
