The Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) marked a significant milestone in its mission to launch a new mechanism to conserve and restore the world’s tropical forests during London Climate Week 2025 (23–27 June). Through a series of high-level panels, bilateral meetings, and collaborative announcements, TFFF strengthened its global partnerships, highlighted the role it could play in mobilising much-needed long-term funding for tropical forests, and reinforced its role as a convening platform for public-private action on climate and biodiversity.
Key Highlights from London Climate Week (see quotes below):
-
Government Support: TFFF received public support from the governments of the UK, Norway, Colombia, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana.
-
Support from Private Sector Leaders: TFFF hosted a roundtable with private sector leaders. Barclays and Bank of America note that they are supportive of the initiative and look forward to continuing the dialogue as the TFFF team works towards a final structure of the Facility.
-
United Nations Praise: UNDP applauded tropical forest countries for taking the lead on financing forest protection.
-
Former Heads of State Back TFFF: TFFF was formally endorsed in a statement by Club de Madrid, the world’s largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers.
-
Indigenous leaders welcome inclusion in TFFF design.
-
IUCN President expresses support for TFFF.
-
NGO Endorsements: The Forests for Life Partnership (WCS, WRI, RFN, and Re:Wild) published a statement in support of the TFFF.
-
Public Engagement & Dialogue: TFFF was featured at several high-level events, including a dialogue with the private sector hosted by GFANZ at Bloomberg’s London office; a round of meetings with environment ministers, civil society, the private sector, and Indigenous Peoples at Kew Gardens; a CTrees event “Tropical Forests for Climate Impact: Driving Innovation in Results-based Policy and Finance on the Road to COP30”; and the World Climate Investment Summit at the London Stock Exchange.
Stakeholder support quotes:
“The TFFF is a robust and innovative mechanism that combines public and private investment, channeling resources directly to those who protect forests, ensuring that at least 20% goes to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. It will mobilize large-scale capital with sustained financial flows to conserve our biodiversity. As we move closer to COP30, we need boldness to forge a new pact between climate and forests — one that helps create a new cycle of prosperity, with the courage and disruptive capacity to change before we are abruptly changed by the climate crisis.”
— Marina Silva, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Brazil
“We will continue working together — among government and Indigenous organizations — to engage countries in building the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), and to ensure that Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities receive at least 20% of the funds mobilized. It is well established that only 1% of all climate finance traditionally reaches Indigenous territories. In this sense, I see the TFFF as both an innovative and structural mechanism.”
