Club de Madrid hosted a press breakfast at its headquarters in the Palacio de Cañete in Madrid on Wednesday with Laura Chinchilla, former President of Costa Rica (2010–2014) and President of Club de Madrid since 1 January 2026.
The meeting brought together a small group of journalists and served as the official presentation of her presidency. During the conversation, President Chinchilla outlined her vision and priorities for the mandate, as well as the organization’s renewed strategic approach and programmatic focus.
Discussions addressed some of the main challenges currently facing democracies worldwide, including political polarization, disinformation, the impact of technology on democratic processes, and the need for responsible and ethical political leadership. The role of cooperation between Europe, Latin America and other regions in addressing global challenges was also highlighted.
On the occasion of her visit to Madrid, President Chinchilla also gave interviews to RTVE, Europa Press and Xinhua, where she addressed the work of Club de Madrid and shared her views on current international affairs.
The session concluded with an open and dynamic exchange with the media, reaffirming Club de Madrid’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance and promoting responsible leadership at the global level.
