Artista plástica y activista por la paz y la memoria histórica en Colombia. Durante su infancia y juventud vivió en el exilio y regresó definitivamente a Colombia en 2010 y desde entonces trabajó en la Secretaría de Cultura de Bogotá y en el Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica. Su trayectoria política electoral inició en 2018 cuando fue elegida Representante a la Cámara por Bogotá encabezando la Lista de la Decencia. Durante ese período se convirtió en la primera mujer en ocupar el cargo de Segunda Vicepresidenta de la Cámara de Representantes en el marco del Estatuto de la Oposición. En 2022 fue elegida Senadora de la República por el Pacto Histórico y en 2023 se convirtió en la primera mujer de izquierda en ocupar la Primera Vicepresidencia del Senado. Fue designada como parte del equipo negociador en la mesa de diálogo con la guerrilla del ELN por el presidente Gustavo Petro. Ha sido elegida por siete años consecutivos como una de las mejores congresistas del país y figura entre las 100 mujeres más poderosas de Colombia según la Revista Forbes. Sus líneas de trabajo son la paz, la memoria histórica, los derechos de las víctimas, la igualdad de género y los derechos de las comunidades étnicas.
She is a visual artist and an activist for peace and historical memory in Colombia. During her childhood and youth, she lived in exile and returned permanently to Colombia in 2010. Since then, she has worked at the Bogotá Secretariat of Culture and the National Center for Historical Memory. Her electoral political career began in 2018 when she was elected to the Chamber of Representatives for Bogotá, leading the Decency List (Lista de la Decencia). During that term, she became the first woman to serve as Second Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives under Colombia’s Opposition Statute. In 2022, she was elected to the Senate of the Republic as a member of the Historic Pact coalition. In 2023, she became the first left-wing woman to serve as First Vice President of the Senate. President Gustavo Petro also appointed her to the government’s negotiating team in the peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN). She has been recognized for seven consecutive years as one of Colombia’s top-performing members of Congress and has been included among Forbes Colombia’s 100 Most Powerful Women. Her work focuses on peacebuilding, historical memory, victims’ rights, gender equality, and the rights of ethnic communities.
