Gabriel Boric Font Becomes New Member of Club de Madrid

Gabriel Boric Font is a Chilean politician who served as the President of the Republic of Chile from March 11, 2022, to March 11, 2026. Member of the Chilean political party Frente Amplio, he was the youngest president in the history of the nation.

His administration was led by a coalition of center-left political parties that promoted public policies regarding social rights, most notably the increase of the minimum wage, the reduction of the workweek, and a historic pension reform that succeeded in increasing pension benefits for the elderly. Furthermore, his government spearheaded the most significant progress in free healthcare in recent decades, consolidating the public network as the guarantor of the right to health through the implementation of the “Copago Cero” (Zero Co payment) system. Under the former president’s administration, institutional capacity was strengthened and resources for public safety were increased, while simultaneously promoting public policies focused on decentralization and environmental protection.

Prior to assuming the presidency, Boric served as a Member of the Chamber of Deputies for the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region during the 2014–2018 term. He was subsequently re-elected for the same region for the 2018–2022 period, once again achieving the highest vote share in the region and the second-highest vote share nationwide.

He studied at the University of Chile School of Law, where he participated actively in university politics. Among his most prominent milestones in this sphere were his presidency of the Law School Student Union and his presidency of the University of Chile Student Federation (FECh) in 2011. During this latter period, he became a pivotal figure of student leadership within the framework of the social mobilizations that took place throughout the country.

Currently, the former president is working on establishing his foundation, an organization committed to building a safer and more sustainable country and Latin America. He also aims to contribute to public debate on various issues of national and international interest, such as democracy, multilateralism, and the defense of social and human rights.
