His Majesty the King of Spain received in audience a representation of the participants of the Imperial Springs International Forum (ISIF), co-organized by Club de Madrid, which held its ninth edition on December 11 and 12 in Madrid.
His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain welcomed the ISIF participants to the Royal Palace of Madrid, marking the first time the forum has been held outside of China. This highlights ISIF’s commitment to expanding multilateral dialogue and promoting a more inclusive and cooperative world order.
Upon arrival, His Majesty the King was received by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Diego MartĂnez BelĂo; the President of Slovenia (2007-2012) and President of Club de Madrid, Danilo TĂ¼rk; and the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Hu Chunhua, among other dignitaries. Following this reception, His Majesty proceeded to the Hall of Columns, where the audience took place.
The President of Club de Madrid, Danilo TĂ¼rk, delivered a brief speech, emphasizing:
“Club de Madrid was founded almost 25 years ago here, in the capital of Spain, and it was no coincidence. It was a recognition of the legacy and values of a country that stands for freedom, inclusion, equity, openness, and dialogue.”
Subsequently, the King addressed the attendees:
“We are sincerely grateful to all of you for choosing Madrid as the venue for the 2024 Imperial Springs International Forum, held for the first time outside China, thus expanding its reach and impact. There is much wisdom and experience in this room. Navigating today’s turbulent waters demands immense quantities of these two qualities: wisdom and experience.”
Finally, His Majesty the King posed with the participants for the official Photo of the event.
Under the theme “Collective Action for One Future,” ISIF 2024 brought together more than 130 political leaders, dignitaries, and experts from over 40 countries. Among the participants were former heads of state and government, academics, and representatives of international organizations. Officials from the Chinese and Spanish governments also participated, and the Mayor of Madrid attended as an institutional partner.
The discussions addressed pressing global challenges, such as peace and security, green technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development. Additionally, participants explored ways to advance multilateralism and development financing, fostering cooperative solutions in an increasingly polarized world.
This edition of the forum reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral dialogue, engaging a broader range of stakeholders in building a more inclusive and collaborative global order. It also called for joint action to reduce strategic tensions and prevent the escalation of threats such as nuclear weapons, trade wars, and unresolved regional conflicts.
