ONU Mujeres – Directora Regional para las Américas y el Caribe | UN Women – Regional Director for the Americas and the Caribbean
Bibiana Aído Almagro se incorporó a ONU Mujeres como directora regional para las Américas y el Caribe en septiembre de 2025. Anteriormente, desde 2021, desempeñó el cargo de representante de ONU Mujeres en Colombia. Con anterioridad ocupó diversos puestos de responsabilidad dentro de ONU Mujeres, entre ellos el de representante en Ecuador (2017–2021), asesora de programas para América Latina y el Caribe (2013–2017) y asesora especial de la directora ejecutiva (2011–2013) en la sede de la organización en Nueva York. Asimismo, ejerció como sherpa para los 66.º y 67.º periodos de sesiones de la Comisión de la Condición Jurídica y Social de la Mujer (CSW) en 2022 y 2023. Antes de incorporarse a ONU Mujeres, formó parte del Gobierno de España como la primera ministra de Igualdad del país (2008–2010) y posteriormente como secretaria de Estado de Igualdad (2010–2011). Previamente desempeñó distintos cargos en la Junta de Andalucía, primero como delegada provincial de Cultura en Cádiz (2003–2006) y, más tarde, como directora de la Agencia Andaluza para el Desarrollo del Flamenco (2006–2008). Es doctora en Administración y Dirección de Empresas por la Universidad de Cádiz (2012–2016) y licenciada en Administración y Dirección de Empresas por la misma universidad (1994–1999). Ha recibido numerosas distinciones por su contribución a la igualdad de género y a los derechos de las mujeres, entre ellas el título de doctora honoris causa por la Universidad de Northumbria (Reino Unido) y el Premio Compromiso Social de la Universidad de Cádiz.
Bibiana Aído Almagro joined UN Women as Regional Director for the Americas and the Caribbean in September 2025. Previously, she served as UN Women Representative in Colombia from 2021. Before that, she held several leadership positions within UN Women, including Country Representative in Ecuador (2017–2021), Programme Adviser for the Americas and the Caribbean (2013–2017), and Special Adviser to the Executive Director (2011–2013) at headquarters in New York. She also served as Sherpa for the 66th and 67th sessions of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in 2022 and 2023. Before joining UN Women, Bibiana served in the Government of Spain as the country’s first Minister for Equality (2008–2010), followed by Secretary of State for Equality (2010–2011). Earlier in her career, she held several positions within the Regional Government of Andalusia, first as Provincial Delegate for Culture in Cádiz (2003–2006), and later as Director of the Andalusian Agency for the Development of Flamenco (2006–2008). Bibiana holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Cádiz (2012–2016) and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the same institution (1994–1999). She has received numerous distinctions for her contributions to gender equality and women’s rights, including an honorary doctorate from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom and the Social Commitment Award from the University of Cádiz, Spain.
