Yesterday, Club de Madrid convened an Ambassadors’ Roundtable at Secretaría General Iberoamericana (SEGIB) (Madrid) focused on the Coalition of Governments and Multilateral Institutions for Global Public Investment (GPI).

The meeting took place in the framework of the first official visit to Madrid of Laura Chinchilla Miranda, former President of Costa Rica (2010–2014), since assuming the Presidency of Club de Madrid on 1 January 2026.

This reunion formed part of the next phase of the Coalition, an international initiative launched following the IV International Conference on Financing for Development through the Seville Action Platform for Global Public Investment, led by Club de Madrid and the Global Public Investment Network, with the support of CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe-, and governments like Uruguay among others.

The roundtable brought together Ambassadors and representatives of multilateral institutions to discuss how Global Public Investment can contribute to a more inclusive, equitable and results-oriented international financing architecture. Discussions explored how GPI complements Official Development Assistance by mobilising additional resources for global public goods such as climate action, water, health, digital inclusion and crisis preparedness, based on three core principles: everyone contributes, everyone benefits and everyone decides.

Participants shared national priorities, reflected on current financing challenges and discussed how pilot initiatives under the Coalition could help demonstrate the added value of GPI as a collaborative and outcome-driven approach to international cooperation.
