Gobernadora del Departamento de Sacatepéquez | Governor of the Department of Sacatepéquez

She is a Kaqchikel Maya woman from Santiago Sacatepéquez. She studied Law and Social Sciences at Mariano Gálvez University and completed studies in social research at the Maya Kaqchikel University.
She has also undertaken specialized training in the collective intellectual property rights of Indigenous Peoples, the defense of collective rights through strategic litigation, project design and evaluation, social auditing and citizen participation, political and social leadership, and the mainstreaming of a gender perspective in public policy, among other areas.
She previously served as Executive Director of the Women’s Association for the Development of Sacatepéquez (AFEDES) and as Coordinator of the National Movement of Maya Weavers of Guatemala. She has also participated at every level of Guatemala’s Development Council System, representing the women’s sector at the municipal, departmental, regional, and national levels.
In public service, she has served as Head of the Multiculturalism and Gender Equality Unit at the National Youth Council (CONJUVE), Deputy Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat for Women (SEPREM), and Advisor on Multiculturalism and Indigenous Peoples to the Office of the Vice President of Guatemala.
Since May 2024, she has served as Governor of the Department of Sacatepéquez, representing President Bernardo Arévalo in the department. She is a Maya leader recognized both nationally and internationally for her leadership and her contributions to advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples, particularly Maya women.
