Supporting Global Health Security: A Call for a Robust Pandemic Agreement

Club de Madrid believes it is appropriate to share that it has issued a powerful letter of impetus to the work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The letter, signed by our President Danilo Türk, emphasizes the urgent need for political determination to secure a meaningful Pandemic Agreement, highlighting the risks posed by late or insufficient action. The coming weeks will be key for negotiations on this Agreement.

This letter from Club de Madrid aligns with the recent G20 Finance and Health Ministers meeting, which underlined the urgency of addressing global health inequalities and preparing for future pandemics. The outcome document of the G20 meeting recognized the critical need to ensure equity, particularly in access to medical resources, and called for a unified commitment to address these inequalities. Club de Madrid, which represents democratic former presidents and prime ministers, urges all stakeholders to prioritize inclusion and decisive financing mechanisms to ensure global health security. The letter emphasizes that while some compromises may be necessary, the stakes demand steady progress toward a comprehensive and equitable pandemic framework.
