At the 62nd Munich Security Conference, which was held on 13-15 February at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Club de Madrid contributed to advancing a broader understanding of security beyond military spending.
Together with The ONE Campaign, we co-hosted the side event “Security Beyond Military Spending: The Missing Ds in Defense, Development and Diplomacy”, highlighting how sustainable security relies on the combined strength of defence, development and diplomacy. Resilient institutions, inclusive societies, and the effective provision of global public goods — including health — are essential pillars of long-term stability.
In parallel, Aminata Touré, Club de Madrid Member and former Prime Minister of Senegal (2013-2014), participated in the session “Spotlight on the Geopolitics of Water”, underlining the deep interconnections between water, environmental, food, and social security. She also stressed the importance of strengthening governance across local, national and global levels, and of approaching sustainable water management as a global public good.
As global risks become increasingly interconnected, reinforcing governance frameworks for shared public goods will be key to building resilience in a fragmented world.
