Alejandra is a young diplomat, feminist advocate, and political advisor committed to gender equality and education. Over the past decade of activism, she has played a key role in advancing human rights and inclusive public policies.
She has degrees in French, French Education and Law, a master’s degree in diplomacy, and extensive training in gender equality and inclusive public policy.
Her activism began in the Student Movement at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), where she later founded Acción Respeto, an organization key in passing the Sexual Street Harassment Bill. She has led training workshops, awareness campaigns, and policy initiatives on gender equality.
From 2015 to 2018, she advised the Presidency of the Republic, contributing to creating an Indigenous consultation mechanism, the Advisory Opinion OC-24 on LGBTQ+ rights before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), and the National Open Government Strategy. She then worked at RET International as a gender-based violence prevention officer, supporting migrant and refugee women.
From 2019 to 2022, she served as a legislative advisor to Congressman Enrique Sánchez, Chair of the Human Rights Commission. She drafted and led key bills on menstrual justice, sexual harassment reporting deadlines, hate crimes, and climate migration.
Since 2022, Alejandra has been a diplomat, overseeing Costa Rica’s agenda and relations with CELAC, SICA, ACS, SEGIB, and the European Union.
She is a graduate of the Change Agents, FESminismos, and Manifiestate programs of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), the Young Leaders program of Women Deliver, and an alumni of Global Shapers.
She currently serves on the board of Fundación GOLEES, which promotes gender equality and women’s empowerment through soccer as a tool for social change on and off the field.
