The panel was part of the Global Energy Forum (30 September – 1 October in Lisbon, Portugal), where a series of political recommendations that would allow a fast expansion of renoewable energy sources were presented by Prime Minister Roman.
The event, organized by The International Herald Tribune, gathered leaders from energy companies, governmental representatives, and high level projects entrepreneurs to debate how to improve the renewable energies implementation and their role in the energy mix. Key speakers of the event included high level personalities such as Jeremy Rifkin, Founder and President of the Foundation on Economic Trends; Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and José Sócrates Carvalho Pinto de Sousa, Prime Minister of Portugal, in addition to the Club de Madrid Member Petre Roman.
During his high level intervention, Petre Roman highlighted the need to establish a political framework to foster implementation of renewable energies, linked to the need of technologies to ensure an effective implementation from an economic point of view. Petre Roman concluded by making the link between the access to clean energy and the poverty alleviation, and the importance to facilitate the renewable energies implementation as a key path to fight against poverty.
