The demand for social and emotional learning (SEL) skills is rising around the globe. But why? This was one of the first questions addressed at the program, Social and Emotional Learning: A Global Synthesis. The Seminar was organized in partnership with ETS, Microsoft and Qatar Foundation International, together with the British Council, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Inter-American Development Bank. 63 participants came together to examine cutting-edge insights into SEL policies, curricula and assessment and to develop arguments for the necessity of SEL programs as a key education reform driver to optimize all students’ opportunities and to improve educational outcomes
During the course of this five day seminar, participants agreed to create a global collaborative network for advancing social-emotional competence, support teachers’ wellbeing, advocate for the inclusion of SEL in schools’ curricula and ensure that children have access to SEL.
Participants were divided into working groups to discuss concrete points to be integrated into the Final Statement. The Drafting Committee – composed by the organizers – will be producing a draft in the coming weeks that will be shared among all participants.
