A delegation of the UN Dutch Student Association (SIB) Leiden visits the Club de Madrid Secretariat

SIB, founded in 1947, aims to inform its members of the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of international relations. Although it is not committed to or dependent upon any political or social group, SIB does subscribe to the Charter of the United Nations. SIB is organized in committees and theme groups, which focus on special areas of interest, such as Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, International Organizations and security issues or development.

Over the years SIB has organized study trips to destinations as diverse as the United States, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Iran and Russia. Each year they also visit a destination in Europe, such as Geneva, Brussels, Prague and Budapest. This year, it was Madrid’s turn. During one week, the group of students brought visits to political parties, media, and civil society organizations, including Club de Madrid.

They were welcomed by outgoing Secretary General Fernando Perpiñá-Robert who briefed them on what Club de Madrid was about and what its objectives are. Luciana Silvestri, in charge of the Energy and Democratic Leadership Program, then gave an overview of our Global Leadership for Climate Action Initiative, while Orla De Diez, Project Coordinator of the Women, Peace and Security project presented the Club de Madrid’s work on that issue in the Greater Horn of Africa.

Club de Madrid thanks the students for their visit and attention, and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
