Club de Madrid is proud to announce the participation of its Member, Mehdi Jomaa, former Prime Minister of Tunisia, in the upcoming ECOSOCC Citizens’ Forum 2025, taking place on 8–9 July 2025 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Organized by the African Union’s Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC), this year’s forum is held under the theme “Reimagining Democracy and Advancing Reparative Justice: A New Social Contract”. The event brings together high-level institutional actors, civil society leaders, and international experts to reflect on the future of governance across the African continent.
Mr. Jomaa, as an active Member of Club de Madrid and a long-time advocate for inclusive dialogue and democratic reform, will contribute his expertise in citizen-centered policymaking and democratic transitions. His participation reaffirms Club de Madrid’s commitment to supporting just, equitable, and participatory governance worldwide.
The 2025 edition of the Citizens’ Forum—now in its fourth year following previous editions in Lusaka, Nairobi, and Accra—will address six key thematic areas: reparative justice, continental governance reform, climate resilience, health sovereignty, fiscal justice, and the implications of artificial intelligence.
The Forum aims to:
-
Propose a new social contract grounded in justice, participation, and historical redress.
-
Strengthen civil society engagement in African Union policymaking.
-
Advance Africa’s leadership in global governance reform.
-
Build bridges between civil society, the diaspora, and AU institutions.
A Citizens’ Declaration featuring bold and actionable recommendations will be presented as a key outcome of the event.
Other distinguished participants include Mr. Louis Sissoko, ECOSOCC Presiding Officer; Mr. Oliver Röpke, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC); and senior officials from the African Union Commission and African governments.
