It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of John Bruton, former Taoiseach of Ireland, former EU Ambassador to the US and esteemed Member of Club de Madrid. As Taoiseach from 1994 to 1997, he played a pivotal role in advancing the peace process in Northern Ireland.
A staunch advocate of the rule of law, fundamental rights, inclusion and peace, he brought his invaluable knowledge and experience in national, regional and international governance to our organisation’s support and defence of these shared principles.
The Members and the Secretariat of Club de Madrid extend their deepest sympathy and condolences to John Bruton’s family and friends and to all those who were inspired by his dedication to public service and democracy. We were honoured and privileged to count on his wisdom and commitment in our collective mission to enhance the well-being of citizens around the world. John Bruton’s legacy as a defender of democracy and a promoter of peace will endure, serving as an inspiration to future generations.
