Social Justice and Development is a core Area of Impact of Club de Madrid’s 2026–2028 Strategy, aimed at addressing inequality and advancing inclusive, equitable and sustainable societies.
The overall aim of this Area of Impact is to promote social justice as the foundation of democratic stability and sustainable development, ensuring that all individuals can live with dignity, participate fully in society and benefit from shared prosperity.
Social Justice and Development seeks to address the structural drivers of inequality and exclusion that undermine trust in democratic institutions and weaken social cohesion. By fostering dialogue, policy innovation and collective action, this area promotes equal rights, equal opportunities and inclusive governance systems that connect economic progress with social wellbeing. It emphasises that social justice is not limited to redistribution, but encompasses participation, fairness and accountability as essential components of democratic life.
A Comprehensive and interconnected Agenda
The initiative advances a comprehensive and interconnected agenda focused on equality and inclusion, fair and sustainable financing for development, and climate action grounded in justice. It promotes gender equality and women’s political participation, supports youth engagement and intergenerational leadership, and encourages balanced and evidence-based approaches to migration. At the same time, it contributes to shaping a more equitable global financial architecture through innovative financing models and strengthened international cooperation, while advocating for climate transitions that protect vulnerable communities and ensure no one is left behind.
Social Justice and Development also facilitates cross-regional dialogue and policy exchange, drawing on the experience of former Heads of State and Government to inform actionable solutions. Through engagement with governments, civil society and multilateral partners, it aims to generate consensus and translate shared principles into effective policies that advance inclusion, sustainability and human dignity at national, regional and global levels.
