CdM co-organised a side-event entitled ‘Building Shared Societies for Equity and Resilience’, where recommendations on the PD Working Group on Shared Societies were shared

As part of the advocacy work to disseminate the 2023 Policy Dialogue recommendations on Rethinking Social Development for People and Planet, President Türk engaged in the 62nd Session of the UN Commission for Social Development (CsocD62) in NYC (5-9 February). President Türk chaired two of the official sessions focused on discussing how social policies can become more effective in achieving inclusive, resilient and equitable societies that leave no one behind.

In this framework, President Türk also engaged in the NGO CSocD High-Level event ‘Reviewing Progress on the Implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration” and in the 2024 Civil Society Forum. CdM also co-organised with the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the UN and UN DESA a side-event entitled ‘Building Shared Societies for Equity and Resilience’, where recommendations on the PD Working Group on Shared Societies were shared.

During this visit to NYC, President Türk, SG Agüero and Gomin Camacho, a member of the WYDE Network of Young Decision-Makers who joined the CdM delegation, met with Permanent Representatives at the UN like the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Chile, Portugal, North Macedonia, Spain, and senior UN officials, including Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Navid Hanif, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in UN DESA, and Felipe Paullier, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs.

The mission also served to share our plans towards PD2024 in South Africa, the G20 Brazil and South Africa presidencies. Club de Madrid took the opportunity to reiterate its support for the preparation of the Summit for the Future 2024, the World Summit for Social Development and the fourth conference on financing for development in 2025.
