The Bank’s Annual Meetings have grown in size and complexity and the number of participants has increased to over 3,000 people, including Heads of State, Ministers of Finance and Planning, Heads of Institutions, other High Level Officials from Governments and Private Sector Institutions, Media Representatives, Academia, and Representatives of Civil Society.
Three Club de Madrid Members, former Pres. Mogae from Botswana, former Pres. Obasanjo from Nigeria and former Pres. Mkapa from Tanzania will be involved in the AfDB meetings and in specific sustainable energy related events. The Club de Madrid, thanks to the support from the Energy, Environment and the Climate Change Department of the African Development Bank, is jointly organizing a session with the P80 Group Foundation. This session will (1) outline the economic and financial needs from the perspective of African governments and project developers; and (2) highlight the financial engineering initiatives currently underway, such as the African Infrastructure Financing Facility developed by the Bank as well as other initiatives the Club de Madrid/P80 partnership is currently working to establish. The aim is to enable the African Development Bank and other partners to incorporate lessons learned from these experiences into their own operational plans to enhance the deployment of green economies in Africa.
