Views were exchanged on the projects the Club of Madrid is currently conducting in Haiti and Kyrgyzstan with the financial support of the European Commission (Instrument for Stability) to support the leadership of those countries in the democratic transition process.
The Commissioner recognized the “permanent value” of the Club of Madrid “which is a political and intellectual asset for Europe and the World” due to the “uniqueness of its membership”, 80 formers Heads of State and Government for more than 50 different countries around the world.
The objective of this meeting was also to set up the basis for a future closer cooperation with the European Commission services on issues related to governance, democratic transition, development and conflict prevention and management.
