Busan and the Aid Efficiency Agenda

Continuing the theme of the Rome (2003), Paris (2005), and Accra (2008) conferences, the Busan summit will evaluate the evolution of the Aid Efficiency Agenda since 2008 and will make new commitments to further guarantee and assure aid contributions to reducing poverty and supporting the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

During this occasion, as part of the preparations for the Busan Conference, the members of the Club of Madrid, Lionel Jospin (ex Prime Minister of France) and Andrés Pastrana (Ex President of Colombia), in addition to other high level international cooperation and development officials, notably Soraya Rodríguez, Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Brian Atwood, President of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), discussed with experts, parliamentarians and civil society groups how the IV High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan can strengthen leadership and the impact of aid in countries in the process of development.

The objective of this gathering was to pursue input for a Club de Madrid political declaration in support of the High Level Conference IV on Aid Effectiveness to be held in Busan (December 2011). This declaration will be proposed for endorsement by CdM Members at our General Assembly to be held on November 8, 2011 in New York.
