Margaret Thatcher dies, aged 87

Undoubtedly one of the greatest politicians of the 20th century and a prominent defensor of patriotic and free-market values, this “iconic stateswoman” as Bill Clinton has described her, took office in 1979 and held the job of Prime Minister of Great Britain for 11 years with a very strong popular support, that only somehow declined in the last years. She led the Conservative party for 15 years, won three general elections in a row and as The Times has writen “never lost a significant vote in the House of Commons”. David Cameron, following the news has said: “It was with great sadness that l learned of Lady Thatcher’s death. We’ve lost a great leader, a great prime minister and a great Briton.”

President Barack Obama has also  praised Baroness Thatcher figure.saying that, “the world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty, and America has lost a true friend”. “She helped restore the confidence and pride that has always been the hallmark of Britain at its best.”, he added.

Club de Madrid wishes to pay a respectful homage to such an outstanding leader.
