Kjell Stefan Löfven was Prime Minister of Sweden from 2014 to 2021. He was president of the Swedish Industrial and Metal Workers Union and board member of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation from 2006–2012. He held other positions including, board member of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (2010–12), Deputy Chair of the Swedish Trade Council (2004–12) and a board member of the Olof Palme International Centre (2002–2006).

Between 2012-2021, Löfven led the Swedish Social Democratic Party. During his presidency, he launched the Global Deal, a global initiative for social dialogue and better conditions in the labour market. He was also the co-chair of the ILO’s Global Commission on the Future of Work, together with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and initiated, together with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, the Leaders’ Network for reinforcing multilateralism.

Stefan Löfven is Chair of the SIPRI Governing Board as of June 2022. Löfven’s background includes extensive experience from various domestic and international assignments. In 2022, he was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General to co-lead a High-level Advisory Board on Effective Multilateralism in preparation for the Summit of the Future.
