Club de Madrid has participated in the third Summit for Democracy, hosted by the Republic of South Korea from March 18th to 20th, with a specific focus on the vital role of youth in shaping democratic processes. As part of our participation in the WYDE initiative, we are a Member of the Youth Democracy Cohort. The Cohort is one of the most active and vibrant products of the Summit for Democracy, has now become an established and inclusive platform for the promotion of youth political participation rights globally.
Jokate Mwgelo, General Secretary of the Women’s Union (CCM) in Tanzania and Member of the WYDE Network of Young Decision-Makers, has been the keynote speaker of a panel discussion on March 19th titled “From Success to Inspiration: Youth-led Democracy Initiatives and Their Replicable Impact.” This session delved into inspiring narratives of successful youth-led initiatives, exploring their impact and replicability across diverse communities.
We are also organizing a side-event, sponsored by the Global Democracy Coalition and co-organized with the European Partnership for Democracy when we have engaged with Young Decision Makers from Africa, Asia and Latin America to discuss promoting political participation in democracies, especially in the Global South. Focusing on ‘Youth and Technology,’ participants shared experiences, identify challenges, and offer recommendations with the audience.
