On April 3, the WYDE Network of Young Decision Makers held a virtual Policy Discussion focused on youth political participation. We had over 20 young leaders from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia. This range of roles and backgrounds set the stage for a rich discussion on the challenges and opportunities for youth in politics, highlighting young leaders’ commitment to governance, policy-making, and civic engagement in their regions.
As the keynote speaker, Felipe Paullier, UN ASG for Youth Affairs, delivered opening remarks on the crucial role of the United Nations Youth Office in prioritising youth-related concerns encompassing human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. Young leaders in response highlighted the need for tailored interventions and creative approaches to make politics more accessible and engaging for youth, stressing the importance of building trust in political participation.
