Digitalisation and Good Governance

Club de Madrid and the Boston Global Forum held a series of discussions and a Policy Lab to address further questions related to tech governance. This ongoing collaboration focuses on how digital technologies and AI are creating new opportunities for the enjoyment of human rights, as well as new threats to their protection.

Digitalisation and the rollout of artificial intelligence (AI) in our societies are posing a set of new regulatory challenges, ethical dilemmas, and questions around our fundamental rights. The democratically rooted policy recommendations and multilateral approach that Club de Madrid advocates can guide the complex policymaking processes that must lead to a fair, balanced and inclusive regulation of the digital sphere.

Club de Madrid’s 2019 Policy Dialogue distilled the implications of digital transformation and AI for fundamental rights, the future of the social contract in the data economy, and citizens’ trust in the face of disinformation. A year before, Club de Madrid held a roundtable in Riga on the threats of disinformation, online echo chambers and hate speech.

Throughout 2020, Club de Madrid and the Boston Global Forum held a series of discussions and a Policy Lab to address further questions related to tech governance. This ongoing collaboration focuses on how digital technologies and AI are creating new opportunities for the enjoyment of human rights, as well as new threats to their protection. With the invaluable support of Novaland / NovaWorld Phan Thiet and in partnership of the Boston Global Forum (BGF), Club de Madrid wishes to contribute to global consensus-building around a rights-based agenda for the governance of digital societies. Over 2021-2025, Club de Madrid will convene annual policy discussions, combining general reflections on fundamental rights together with more issue-based policy discussions around the implications of digital technologies and AI.
