Amongst the projects and activities to be implemented by the Club de Madrid and supported by the NGIC shall be a Women’s Empowerment program in the South Caucasus region: Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

The First South Caucasus Forum, held from 5th to the 8th of May in Ganja and Baku, Azerbaijan, concluded with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Club de Madrid and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center to join forces and work together to strengthen Club de Madrid’s mission of “democracy that delivers”.
This significant outcome will focus on the development and implementation of a two year/three country project “Promoting Women’s Empowerment in the South Caucasus region: Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey”. This collaborative agreement will strive to address and tackle the multitude of challenges that hinder the full realization of women´s capacities in this part of the world, all of this within the framework of the Club de Madrid’s broader program on this issue in other regions.
The agreement also includes the support of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center for the next Club de Madrid Annual Conference to be held in Brisbane, Australia from the 6th to the 9th of December, as well as of other projects related to democratic leadership and governance, the response to crisis and post-crisis situations and dialogue and understanding between cultures and peoples.
The Club de Madrid-Nizami Ganjavi Center partnership agreement was signed within the framework of the First South Caucasus Forum, centered on two significant elements of today’s international agenda- shared societies and women’s empowerment- covering, on the one hand, the inclusion of minorities, social cohesion and internally displaced people and, on the other, the issues of women’s participation in politics and policy making, participation in the labour market, and in peace and security processes were tackled.
The list of high level participants at the Conference included the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Georgia, Mikheil Saakhasvili and HM Queen Noor of Jordan who joined the President of the Club de Madrid, Wim Kok, Vice Presidents of the Club de Madrid, Jenny Mary Shipley and Jorge Quiroga, as well as Nizami Ganjavi International Center Board Members, Vaira Vike Freiberga (also a Member of the Club de Madrid) and Mohamed Ismail Serageldin, along with other Members of both institutions.
