The Club de Madrid presents its Recommendations to the G20

Analysis focussed and centred upon three core issues, namely, food security, energy and innovative financing mechanisms for development. Reports were commissioned and prepared to stimulate and nourish debate by the Organization for Economic Development and Co-operation (OECD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations experts and academics from various prestigious institutions. Resulting from this meeting, a series of key recommendations were drawn up relating to the summit’s primary themes, which were presented by the Club of Madrid’s members to President Sarkozy in person on 9 September during a working luncheon at the Élysée Palace.

The summit’s participants included amongst others various Members of the Club of Madrid, notably Wim Kok (ex prime Minister of Holland and President of the Club of Madrid), Kim Campbell (ex Prime Minister of Canada), Ricardo Lagos (ex President of Chile) and Hong Koo Lee (ex Prime Minister of Korea). The Paris meeting was further attended by representatives of the French Presidency of the G20 and other key figures, José Antonio Ocampo, former United Nations Adjunct Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, Gabriela Ramos, Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G20 for the OECD, and Mario Pezzini, Director for the Centre for Development at the OECD.
