Ten former presidents and 50 experts tackle the challegues of the Next Generation Democracy in the Americas

Jorge Quiroga, Vicente Fox, Ricardo Lagos, Yves Leterme, Belisario Betancur, César Gaviria, Alejandro Toledo, Luis Alberto Lacalle, Enrique Iglesias and  nominated Club de Madrid Members Laura Chinchilla and Carlos Mesa, participated in the three days round table held in Bogotá 24-26 of August.

 

The debate, aimed to identify practical and transformative democratic ideas in the region, taking into account three main dimensions: New democratic values and institutional reforms, Progress towards equality and political, economic and social inclusion and new democratic and effective public policies. Moreover, sub-regional groups of countries facing similar political and economic situations will be considered. 

On August 26, the President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos as well as Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of the SEGIB (Secretaria General Iberoamericana) participated – alongside the Club de Madrid Members – a Public Event in the Teatro Colón of the Colombian capital city where the conclusions of the forum were revealed. A debate was conducted around the topics of “Next Generation Democracy” and “Peace, Public Security and Democracy in Latin America”.
